Back to 2014 when I was my heaviest and weighted almost 180 pounds, I was depressed and I had developed a very unhealthy relationship with food.

Gaining weight and being depressed meant I had low energy and would spend my time sleeping, and eating takeout. That was an all time low, not only was I in college at the time and stressed out but I was also recovering from a car accident. I was just getting out of a very bad relationship which was mentally draining and that had a lot to do with how I treated my body.
I started my health journey in 2016 and I was at my strongest, fittest and healthiest. I felt amazing and that was the first time in my life that I felt completely in control of my weight. I was running over 5 miles several times a week, doing a lot of strength training and I was conscious of what I was putting into my body.
There is a fine line between dieting and under eating, and I started eating very little, training to much and my health was suffering yet again. I had start fainting and even had breakouts of Psoriasis all over my stomach because of the stress I was putting on my body.
My point is I know exactly what it feels like to be over weight, underweight and I know exactly what it takes to get healthy again. I don’t like saying I need to loose weight to be healthy because I don’t believe that is
Make time for your health
You can pay for all the programs, personal training and apps you want but it will not work if you don’t! I’d love to tell you there is a celebrity secret to weight loss but the honest truth is there isn’t and the only thing that will change is hard work and consistency. So you need to start waking up an hour before everyone else, taking some pre workout and hitting the gym up after work. Find a time that works for you and stick with it.
Be Conscious of what you are eating
The app My Fitness Pal is not only for tracking calories and cardio, but it also shows exactly the kinds of food you are eating and where you may be struggling. I was able to use this app to find out that I would eat a lot of junk around 3 pm, and I knew it was because I started having a burn out at that time and needed some extra fuel. Instead of eating bad I started having a coffee and a bottle of water ready to go and avoided all the extra calories.
Small consistent changes will equal big changes over time.
Start by switching out those double doubles for some sugar free coffee with almond milk instead. I know it doesn’t taste good but its not desert and you might need to get out of the habit of thinking your getting away with drinking too much sugar. Find what you’re eating everyday that needs to change and start switching it out for healthier versions.
Find a partner and some motivation
There are two things that made a difference for me, first I found one of my friends who loved to workout and we would regularly meet at the gym to do cardio and talk or try a new workout. It made working out fun and also challenged me, and I loved the competition. The second thing I did was watch a ton of YouTube videos, like Heidi Somers and Whitney Simmons, both girls are amazing to follow and sooo inspiring!
Lastly, please be kind to yourself!
It takes time, and I’m still struggling with being consistent but I think the most important thing to remember is why you are starting this journey in the first place. For me specifically it’s not only for weight loss but for overall health and to show my daughter the importance of making their health a priority.
